Creative Services works in partnership with select clients across campus to clarify needs and develop design strategies that meet their marketing and communication objectives, anchored by the mission of UMBC. Please view our portfolio to see a small sample of what we do.

Jim Lord

Jim Lord ’99

Director of Creative Services

During Jim's final semester at UMBC, he worked as the part-time web assistant for UMBC's Creative Services, and he's been with the group in various roles ever since. In his current position as Director, Jim oversees the day-to-day operations of the studio and continues to design materials for the campus community. He recently received his M.F.A. in Integrated Design from the University of Baltimore.

Marlayna originally joined the Creative Services team as an intern her senior year at UMBC. She has since transitioned roles from freelance photographer, part time and now full time staff, and is happy to be able to participate in so many University events and initiatives. In her free time she likes traveling to and exploring different cities (with camera of course), going to concerts, or just catching up with friends at coffee shops.

Emily Macenko

Production Coordinator

Emily recently returned to Baltimore after living in the San Francisco Bay Area for four years where she earned her M.A. from California College of the Arts and worked as a development coordinator at the Oakland Museum of California. Prior to Oakland, Emily planned alumni programs at the Maryland Institute College of Art. She also has her B.A. in Art History from St. Mary’s College of Maryland and enjoys custom framing, art, and the Orioles.

Layla

Layla Thompson

Digital Design Specialist

Layla has an A.A.S. in Interior Design from CCBC and a B.S. in Visual Communication Design from Stevenson University. As a Baltimore native, Layla is studying for her M.F.A in Integrated Design at the University of Baltimore. She has a strong interest in typography, and enjoys both print and web design. Her creative inspirations stem from her desire to try new ideas, her love for animals, and a wide variety of music.

Dusten

Dusten Wolff '13

Digital Design Specialist

During his final semester at UMBC, Dusten worked with the Student Events Board as a Design and Marketing Director. After graduating, he joined the front office staff of the Baltimore Orioles as the Assistant Graphic Designer for the majority of two seasons. He is always on the lookout for design ephemera of the past to add to his collection, or to inspire new ideas.
